The Boones

Everyone knows about the great explorer and frontiersmen Daniel Boone. However, he wasn’t the only Boone who made impacts around the the Commonwealth of Kentucky. His brother, Squire, also left a lasting mark on Kentucky. His wife Rebecca should receive a notable amount of credit too. She was left for long periods of time raising her family while Daniel was off on explorations.

Rebecca Boone is a great Kentuckian we should all know but often she is overshadowed by her famous husband Daniel.

 

We visited the actual cabin that was Daniel Boone and family lived from 1795-1799. This was the last home that Daniel had in Kentucky before migrating to Missouri. See the sights, and hear the story here!

Squire Boone is the lesser known Boone. He explored the Kentucky wilderness with his brother Daniel and help establish many settlements.

 

We visited the grave of Jemima Boone-Calloway outside of Marthasville, Missouri. She is buried next to her parents, the famous Daniel & Rebecca Boone. You may remember Jemima from the epic event of her capture and rescue the became the basis for the book and movie, "Last of the Mohican's".

We visited the grave of Edward "Ned" Boone, in Bourbon County, Kentucky. Ned was murdered by Shawnee at this location, and his brother Daniel Boone, barely made it away alive. Hear the story here!

 

We visited the spot where in 1769, Daniel Boone and a company of explorers, first surveyed the rolling Bluegrass Region of Kentucky. Here the story here!

Daniel Boone lived out his golden years in the Femme Osage Valley, in Missouri where he died in 1820. He was buried there but was relocated in 1845 to Frankfort, Kentucky. BUT... WAS HE?!?! Much controversy surrounds the actual location of Daniel and his wife Rebecca's final resting place. Hear the story here!

We visited the monument dedicated to pioneer graves, in Lee County, Virginia. The monument tells the story of the vicious attack, and murders of 16-year-old James Boone, the son of the famous Daniel Boone, 17-year-old Henry Russell, the son of Captain William Russell, and others. The details of the story will no doubt bring a variety of opinions and feelings. At Family Tree Nuts, we try to never sugar coat things, or "take a side" in any of the stories we document.
